Xu Youquan
Biography
Xu Youquan was a prominent Yixing pottery master during the late Ming Dynasty, active during the Wanli period (1573-1620). He is considered one of the most important figures in Yixing teapot history, known for elevating the craft to new artistic heights. Xu was particularly celebrated for his innovative techniques and refined aesthetic sensibility.
Xu Youquan studied under the famous potter Shi Dabin and became renowned for his ability to create teapots with exceptional craftsmanship and elegant forms. He was especially skilled at working with various clay types and developing new decorative techniques. His work represented a significant advancement in Yixing pottery, combining technical mastery with artistic expression.
