Gu Jingzhou devoted tremendous effort to the development of Yixing purple clay pottery after the founding of the People's Republic of China. He deeply cared about the development of the purple clay factory and the prosperity of Yixing's purple clay industry. In the late 1970s, when attending the China Import and Export Commodities Fair in Guangzhou, Gu Jingzhou met with Liu Peijin, the general manager of the China Arts and Crafts Import and Export Corporation, and straightforwardly proposed: "You must find ways to sell the products manufactured by our purple clay factory, and sell them at good prices." Thereafter, the China Arts and Crafts Import and Export Corporation quickly selected several merchants in Hong Kong. Through annual exhibitions, supplemented by books, newspapers, magazines, television, and other media, they used Hong Kong as a frontline base to promote Yixing purple clay pottery to the world. The books we see today, such as *Sand Collection*, *Pottery Catalog*, and *Brocade Collection*, were promotional albums from these activities. Gu Jingzhou personally wrote articles and participated in editorial guidance. Gu Jingzhou's enthusiastic participation enabled Yixing purple clay pottery to catch the wave of reform and opening up, expanding rapidly and extensively outward. Gu Jingzhou visited Hong Kong, an important transit hub for purple clay trade, three times. The first visit was in 1981, when he went to Hong Kong with Gao Haigeng, Xu Xiutang, and Song Bokui from the Nanjing Museum to participate in the Sixth Asian Arts Festival.
