Gu Jingzhou loved the art of Yixing purple clay pottery and devoted his entire life to its pursuit and exploration. Throughout his career, he created hundreds of works, each one crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail. These works built upon the excellent techniques inherited from his predecessors, while incorporating Gu Jingzhou's own understanding of purple clay as an artistic medium, ultimately forming his own distinctive and unique style. All of Gu Jingzhou's love and hate, sorrow and joy, bitterness and pleasure, gains and losses throughout his life were expressed through the tools in his hands and manifested in each coil of clay. Gu Jingzhou's purple clay works are characterized by their archaic simplicity, clean lines, harmonious proportions, and grand forms, giving viewers a sense of refined and flowing beauty. This artistic style of archaic simplicity has influenced several generations of artists who came after him. When we appreciate Gu Jingzhou's teapots, it is like reading through the twists and turns of his life journey. Similarly, understanding the ordinary moments and magnificent peaks of his life allows us to touch the deepest essence of his works.
