Signed "Chen Mingyuan," currently housed in the Nanjing Museum. Made from duan clay, with an earthy yellow color and an aged patina. The vessel lies horizontally in the form of a bamboo shoot, with outer shells layered and overlapping in alternating patterns. The veins and insect-eaten traces on the shell are rendered with remarkable verisimilitude, and the root patterns are clearly visible. Among the various naturalistic sculptural works in Yixing pottery, this piece can be described as "subtle in its ingenuity, extending through analogical thinking, mysteriously penetrating and brilliantly clear, skillfully seizing the work of nature itself." This water vessel was donated in 1958 by He Tianlin of Shanghai. Gu Jingzhou once examined it in person, and his disciples also confirmed that this piece was made by Gu Jingzhou during his period of creating reproductions in Shanghai.
