Legend has it that the "Gongchun teapot" was created by Gongchun during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty. According to Gu Jingzhou's research, this type of Gongchun style was actually conceived and collaboratively created by Huang Yuji and Wu Dacheng during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, based on the "Gongchun tree stump style" described in historical records. They adopted the name "Gongchun," which also carries the meaning of spring's revival of all things, serving as a commemoration. Gu's "Gongchun" teapot features a relatively thin body with meticulous craftsmanship and a yellow-brown clay color. The surface of the vessel displays textured patterns with flowing lines, resembling the bark of an aged, gnarled tree. It is topped with a smooth melon-stem-shaped lid, and the dramatically curved handle possesses great tension. The overall form of the teapot is simple and pure. The body is light, and it feels comfortable to hold and pour. In 1983, Gu Jingzhou traveled to Shanghai with his wife to seek treatment for dysentery and temporarily resided at Shanghai Huaihai Middle School. During his spare time amid the busy schedule, he created three "Pomegranate Lifting-Handle teapots" and three "Gongchun teapots." Aside from one "Gongchun teapot" and one "Pomegranate Lifting-Handle teapot" that he submitted to the factory as production assignments, he generously gifted the rest to friends who had helped him. Gu Jingzhou's character and artistic integrity are evident from this gesture.
