Wen Hao Part One Gu Jingzhou's Handwritten Notes ...to reach accurate conclusions. Based on his own experience and combined with an examination of the stylistic characteristics of the works, Gu Jingzhou made chronological assessments of some of the Ming and Qing dynasty Yixing pottery pieces in the Palace Museum collection: > Chen Mingyuan was born in the Kangxi period and died in the Qianlong period. He was a remarkable figure in terms of technical skill. > The polychrome relief-decorated melon and fruit Yixing ware represents the style of the Qianlong period. > The Qing dynasty Qianlong period Yixing brush holder with painted landscape decoration is a typical Qianlong work. A layer of black lacquer was applied to the base to prevent abrasion. Some Qianlong period Yixing brush holders show fine crackle on the surface, which resulted from the original body color being unsatisfactory, leading to the application of a layer of diluted fine clay after the Yixing body had dried. > Wang Nanlin was a craftsman of the Qing Qianlong period who made imperial wares for the palace. > The black sand bamboo-section jar with "Weiquan" mark is a Jiaqing period work. > The "Made by Shi Baofeng" Yixing applied-decoration small square flower pot is a work from the Jiaqing-Daoguang period. > The Yixing jar with thunder pattern and cicada finial bearing the "She Ji" mark was made by Shao Quanheng, a person of the Tongzhi period. His great-grandson still works at the Yixing Purple Sand Factory. > The Yixing flat jar with "Ceyan" mark is a Tongzhi period work.
