Bamboo Shoot-Shaped Water Dropper (Collection of Nanjing Museum) Regarding the authenticity of this "Bamboo Shoot-Shaped Water Dropper," we can find some clues in the book *Appreciation of Yixing Zisha Treasures*, edited under the direction of Gu Jingzhou. In the third point of the "Editorial Notes" at the beginning of the book, there is the following statement: > Masterpieces by famous artists throughout history have often been imitated. This book only includes the finest pieces, and distinctions have been made between authentic works and reproductions. All items authenticated as genuine are marked with the maker's name; those that cannot be confirmed or are identified as reproductions only have their inscriptions transcribed.[1] The book includes a total of eleven works of various types by Chen Mingyuan, of which only three are "marked with the maker's name," while the other eight merely have "their inscriptions transcribed," including this "Bamboo Shoot-Shaped Water Dropper" in the collection of Nanjing Museum. According to the standards set forth by Gu Jingzhou in the "Editorial Notes," the "Bamboo Shoot-Shaped Water Dropper" at Nanjing Museum is undoubtedly not a genuine work by Chen Mingyuan, but rather an imitation. The book does not definitively conclude whether this piece was made by Gu Jingzhou himself. --- [1] Gu Jingzhou, ed., *Appreciation of Yixing Zisha Treasures* (Hong Kong: Joint Publishing (H.K.)
