Gu Jingzhou once said to his apprentice Xu Handang: "Those without culture gain my technique, those with culture gain my art." Xu Weiming, the youngest son of Xu Handang, recalled in an interview with Wuxi Television that Gu Jingzhou often incorporated teaching into his work, using lively word games to lighten the work atmosphere, and required them to recite Tang poetry and Song lyrics to improve their cultural cultivation. Gu Jingzhou once told a story. In the early 1940s, Gu Jingzhou worked as a technician at the Shanghai Standard Ceramics Company. When the company recruited apprentices, the boss invited more than a dozen applicants to eat dumplings. After the meal, he asked each person how many dumplings they had eaten, and only two people answered correctly. Another person, upon entering, picked up a chicken feather that had fallen on the floor and put it away properly. Based on this, the boss hired these three people, because they were attentive in their actions. Later, it was proven that all three became extraordinary individuals. Through this vivid story, Gu Jingzhou explained a principle to his apprentices: no matter how high others' expectations are, as long as you are an attentive person, you will be rewarded. He always believed: "If you persist for just one hour every day, reading through an entire newspaper, and keep it up for three years, your cultural level will definitely improve." --- [1] Xu Feng, *Rules and Methods*, published in *Wenhui Daily*, September 6, 2014 [2] Wuxi Radio and Television Station, *Gu Jingzhou* (CD), 2010
