Beat the body cylinder, after beating the body cylinder well, then beat the lid and cover plate. The clay consistency for the lid and cover plate must be the same (because this teapot has a square cover plate), and they must be shaped simultaneously, otherwise they will not align properly. When beating the lid, after preparing and spreading the clay material, it's best to also prepare the cover piece for making. The next step is to build the spout, reverse the clay, shape the spout, shape the handle, and fit the lid knob. The clay slip for fitting the lid knob must be just right—not too much or too little. After fitting the lid knob properly, push it six times, then attach the lid to the body cylinder. The bottom and rim lids should be attached together; attach the bottom lid first, then the rim lid. The bottom lid should feel slightly softer than the rim lid—it's essential to master the proper clay consistency. First trim the false bottom, then trim the rim lid. Take the fitted lid knob to work on it, then cut the knob and spout. Install the knob first (because this pot has no "ghost"), and when the clay slip for installing the knob is half-dry, smooth the lid and shape the flange. The clay for the flange must have the same consistency as the clay for beating the clay coils. If the base of the flange is 4 millimeters thick, the flange circumference should be 1.5 millimeters larger than the opening rim. The flange must definitely be larger than the opening rim—this allows room for shaping the flange and adapting to clay consistency. After shaping the flange well, when setting it aside to dry, place the lid knob upright; don't place it upside down. If placed upside down (i.e., with the flange facing up), the flange will easily shrink and curve inward. Next, refine the knob, smooth it, and install the spout. After the spout is installed, hollow out the lid knob, nail the handle, refine the spout, smooth the spout, and open the mouth. When finishing the piece, the lid knob must be completed properly—never finish the body first and then make the lid knob. Practice proves that when the flange is shaped well, the lid knob will be made well.
